Durham, NH PROCON has completed construction work in time for the fall semester on Madbury Commons, a 525-bed student housing development near the University of New Hampshire. The mixed-use complex is a combination of student housing and commercial retail space. One of Durham’s most prominent student housing developers, Golden Goose Capital, developed the multi-purpose complex. PROCON of Manchester was the construction manager, TMS Architects of Portsmouth produced the comprehensive design and financing was led by Kennebunk Savings.

Construction work began on the project in June, 2014 and took fourteen months. Severe winter conditions and site conditions challenged the construction schedule, but the PROCON construction team worked aggressively to keep the project on target for the upcoming school year. “The remarkable effort put forth by the PROCON team over the past four months working whatever hours it took to finish the project has paid off. It has allowed the students to move in as scheduled,” said the PROCON project manager.

The two multi-purpose buildings are comprised of 126 student apartments located at 17 and 21 Madbury Rd. The buildings sit on 2.6 acres and total 208,000 s/f. The property includes 46,000 s/f of commercial retail space. The prospective retail areas are contained on the lower floor of the buildings with the student housing located above. UNH has signed a 20-year lease for 38,000 s/f for its nationally acclaimed InterOperability Lab, which provides hands-on experience to future engineers. The lab is expected to open by December of this year.

The furnished upscale apartments are around 1,000 s/f each to accommodate the 500 plus students.
