Suffolk Construction's built Radian achieves USGBC’s LEED Gold Certification

Boston, MA Radian is a new 26-story luxury residential tower located on a tight urban site that borders Chinatown Park and the Greenway, the building is comprised of 240 rental apartment units ranging from studios to spacious penthouses and includes street-level retail and three levels of covered, above-grade parking.

Construction consisted of structural steel with a concrete core. Triangular in shape, two sides of the building are precast concrete while the third side features a unique glass window wall. Building features include a number of five-star amenities such as a state-of-the-art fitness center and resident lounge.

Radian recently earned LEED Gold certification. The highly sustainable project earned a total of 40 points, five of which were Innovation in Design credits for exemplary performance.  Of note was the exemplary performance for Development Density (more than double the average density), Construction Waste Management (97.83% of on-site generated construction waste was diverted from landfills), and 100% covered parking. 

Additional green building features of Radian include: • Use of low-flow fixtures resulted in savings of 22.3% from baseline threshold • Storm water retention plan has resulted in 31.6%  reduction in run-off from previous site • Building was designed to be 25% more energy efficient than ASHRAE Standard 90.1 baseline building • 35% of energy use is purchased from green/renewable power sources • Over 32% of the building materials were made from recycled product, earning an Innovation in Design credit for exemplary performance • 85% of the wood came from certified forests
