Waterford Development and XSS Hotels open Residence Inn Boston-Concord

Residence Inn by Marriott, 320 Baker Avenue, Concord, MA

Concord, MA Waterford Development and XSS Hotels hosted the grand opening of the Residence Inn by Marriott located at 320 Baker Ave. Waterford Development and XSS Hotels collaborated on the 77,250 s/f hotel, that is 1 ½ miles from Concord Center, and 19 miles from Boston’s downtown.  PROCON was the designer-builder and Colwen Hotels will provide comprehensive management services. 

The hotel features 118 extended-stay king and queen studios with fully outfitted kitchens. Guests may enjoy the swimming pool, fitness room, full-service bar and lounge, 24/7 market with snacks and sundries, and a breakfast bar off the lobby. An onsite business center with printer and office supplies is available, as well as a flexible meeting room, perfect for up to 60 people for groups or special functions. All reservations include a complimentary hot breakfast and parking is available for 231 cars.

The LEED Silver designed hotel incorporated some earth-friendly elements to reduce energy usage, such as a white roof, LED lighting throughout and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. A roof water collection system captures water from the roof and recycles it to the hotel’s plants. Two electric car-charging stations are on site for customers with electric vehicles.

Bob Shapiro is the co-founder of Waterford Development, but he is also a longtime resident of the town. “Having lived less than 3 miles away from the site for the last 30 years, we feel the personal thrill of having this hotel in our own backyard. Historic Concord, one the earliest colonial settlements, is well known as the birthplace of Louisa M. Alcott and Ralph Waldo Emerson, and is home to the Minuteman National Park. It is one of the most visited places in the Greater Boston area with thousands of tourists passing through annually.

The hotel opened its doors to guests in late September and has enjoyed sold-out occupancy rates. Chris Whalen said, “We really believe that the Residence Inn coming to town will add to the amenities we have to offer as a community.”

Local dignitaries, business leaders, and town officials joined the two companies to celebrate the festive occasion. Attendees and guests mixed and mingled in the lobby area, as small groups enjoyed guided tours of the hotel rooms and amenities. Concord town manager Chris Whalen was an integral part of the planning board processes for the hotel and commented, “Concord is a town that likes to foster local businesses. The proponents of this hotel had a great reputation. We were happy to work with them, change the zoning and get the approvals process completed. We think this hotel will be a great support and an asset to our local business community.”
