Wayne J. Griffin Electric provides services for Wonderland Transit Station

The Wayne GriffinElectric Inc. has provided electrical services for the Wonderland Transit Infrastructure and Streetscape projects. Located on the MBTA's Blue Line, the projects include renovation of the Wonderland Transit Station and construction of a new parking garage. The addition of elevated walkways, including stairs and elevators, plus a new outbound platform, to connect the station and parking structure, is part of the streetscape renovation of the existing MBTA station. The new parking garage will consist of 1,465 spaces, serving to consolidate parking, making the transit process more efficient and safe for commuters. Griffin Electric is responsible for installing new lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm and distribution systems for both projects, in addition to a generator and tele/data work in the garage. Suffolk Construction Co., Inc. is the general contractor for both projects. Walker Parking Consultants is the architect, with Arrowstreet Inc. the image architect, and Commercial Construction Consulting, Inc. (C3) the electrical engineer, for the parking garage, while Aecom, is the architect, and Architectural Engineers, the electrical engineer, for the streetscape renovations. The Griffin team was led by senior project manager Tom Donahue, and foreman Dan Furtado. Another transportation project, the Franklin Regional Transit Center in Greenfield, was recently completed by the Griffin team. This project involved the construction of a new 24,000 s/f regional transit center facility, to function as the "hub" for Franklin Regional Transit Authority's 40-member town service area, with the intent of adding future rail services along the Connecticut River. As the first zero net energy transit facility in the country, the energy-efficient transit center will reduce energy use onsite through the installation of several "green" features, such as a geothermal system, biomass boiler and 7,300 s/f of photovoltaic panels. Under the direction of recently-promoted region manager Marc McNair and foreman Kurt Brouillette, Griffin Electric was tasked with the installation of a 1200-amp service at the facility, in addition to lighting, fire alarm and tele/data systems. Also, the transit center construction included as 120KW photovoltaic system, setup by the Griffin team. The Franklin Regional Transit Center project was led by general contractor Fontaine Bros., Inc., of Springfield, with architect, Charles Rose Architects, Inc., of Somerville, and electrical engineer, ARUP, of Cambridge.
