Wingate Living acquires 59-unit Wingate Residences at Pleasant Bay

Brewster, MA Wingate Living, a family-run organization offering a full continuum of services from independent and assisted living to memory care, skilled nursing and home care, has completed the acquisition of Wingate Residences at Pleasant Bay, a 59-apartment independent and assisted living community. The acquisition represents Wingate’s continued commitment to expanding access to exceptional senior living throughout the Northeast. Wingate is investing in the future of this community, undertaking an extensive revitalization of the property, and partnering with designer Elizabeth Markel, whose portfolio spans from the Cape to New York, Los Angeles, and more.

This acquisition comes as Wingate Living concludes 2025 with an unprecedented portfolio-wide occupancy rate of 97%, reflecting strong demand for the organization’s personalized approach to senior living. Wingate is set to make a significant investment in revitalizations at the community, enhancing the location while also ensuring residents remain in their homes throughout the process.

“We’re proud to bring Wingate’s commitment to quality senior living to the Cape,” said Alexandra Schuster, president of Wingate Living. “Brewster is a beautiful community with a strong sense of connection, and we look forward to enhancing this property to reflect the same standards of excellence our residents have come to expect across all Wingate communities.”

The renovation will fully transform the community, update the interiors of all 59 apartments and modernize all common areas – from the pub and movie theater to the dining room, fitness center, and shared spaces – each designed to support Wingate’s LiveWell philosophy of holistic wellness.

Residents will continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to the community’s pool and all amenities during the renovation process, with improvements planned to minimize disruption while maximizing the transformation of living spaces.

“Our goal is to create a vibrant community where residents thrive,” said Schuster. “From fitness and dining to our LiveWell programming focused on mind, body, and soul, we’re investing in spaces and experiences that truly enrich daily life for the people who call this community home.”

Wingate Living has partnered with well-known interior designer Elizabeth Markel of Markel Interiors to bring the vision for Wingate Residences at Pleasant Bay to life. With a portfolio spanning from historic Cape Cod landmarks to yachts, to luxury residences in New York, Los Angeles, and Palm Beach, Markel brings a refined aesthetic sensibility and deep understanding of functional, beautiful design. Her work, which has extended from Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard to London and Paris, reflects a commitment to creating spaces that are both elegant and ideally suited to the people who inhabit them.

“My team and I are honored to partner with Wingate Living on this transformation,” said Elizabeth Markel of Markel Interiors. “Our focus is on creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and welcoming, where residents feel truly at home. Cape Cod has such a distinct character, and we’re excited to design interiors that honor that coastal charm while bringing a fresh, refined elegance to Wingate Residences at Pleasant Bay.”

Located in the heart of Cape Cod, the Brewster community offers residents the perfect blend of coastal charm and modern senior living. With proximity to beaches, local shops, cultural attractions, and the natural beauty that defines the region, Wingate Living’s newest location provides an ideal setting for active, engaged senior living.
