Berry & Son chosen for Berklee, MIT projects

William A. Berry & Son, Inc. has been awarded a total of $6 million in projects by two Boston-area academic institutions. For MIT, Berry will undertake a $4 million project for renovations at the Bates Linear Accelerator in Middleton. The 4,000 s/f project involves transitioning an existing data center into a high performance research computing facility. Project components include new chilled water, electrical and HVAC systems. The initiative is a pilot project for future MIT remote computer centers. The Bates facility is part of the laboratory for nuclear science at MIT and provides support for preconceptual design and development work, as well as construction of spectrometer and other systems. Berklee College of Music in Boston has awarded Berry a $2 million project for renovations at 7 Haviland St., which is currently leased by the Fenway Community Health Center. The renovation of the three-story, 18,000 s/f building will begin in 2009 and will include new faculty offices and classrooms. Construction elements involve mechanical system upgrades and façade and window work. "We are pleased to assist both these fine institutions in preparing for the future," says Peter Campot, Berry CEO. "We've had the privilege of working with MIT on previous projects, but this is our first with Berklee. We are delighted at being selected by both." Founded in 1857, William A. Berry & Son, Inc. is one of the nation's oldest construction companies.
