A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in December 13, 2012 at Hanscom Air Force Base to honor the opening of one of the nation's first Joint Forces headquarters buildings, a 120,000 s/f office building, phase I of a two-phase, two-wing, 200,000 s/f facility to accommodate both the Massachusetts Army and Air National Guard. Attending the ceremony was governor Deval Patrick, lieutenant governor Tim Murray, senator Elizabeth Warren, the adjutant general of the Massachusetts National Guard major general Scott Rice, and general Frank Grass, National Guard Bureau chief.
Phase I of the $23.8 million project was designed by Kleinfelder/SEA Consultants, Inc. and constructed by CTA Construction Co. Inc. The building contains flexible interior space to accommodate the changing needs of the National Guard divisions. The building will serve as the administrative, war-time, and domestic response headquarters for over 8,000 soldiers, Airmen and Civilians.
The building design includes numerous sustainable features, including optimized energy performance, recycled-content building materials and adherence to an Indoor Air Quality Management Plan. The site contains water efficient landscaping.
The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.
