Kaplan Construction recognized by the BBJ

Boston, MA Kaplan Construction was recognized as one of the Best Places to Work by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ). The award honors companies creating the most enjoyable and meaningful work environments, based on anonymous employee surveys collected from companies in Boston. “We are extremely pleased to recognize these companies that clearly value their employees and go the extra mile to create great workplaces,” said Carolyn Jones, the Boston Business Journal’s publisher and market president. In September 2014 Kaplan announced the culmination of a three-year management transition. Nathan Peck was promoted to president and Jane Kaplan Peck, majority owner, was appointed chief operating officer (COO). Founders Ken and Cathy Kaplan took on new roles as chairman of the board and senior advisor, respectively. In October 2014 the company was certified as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. “We are thrilled to once again be on the Boston Business Journal’s prestigious list,” said Jane Peck, chief operating officer at Kaplan Const. “This past year we were committed to providing our employees a new and reenergized office space, challenging opportunities from which to grow and develop, and above all, a balanced home and work life. It is an honor to be recognized for these things as we celebrate our 40^th anniversary.” Recent Kaplan projects include: Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills (Milton, Mass.) Kaplan delivered construction management and design/build services for a new 8,500 s/f, two-story building for Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills in Milton. Designed to accommodate 120+ member families, the sanctuary will seat 160 for the High Holidays. The building has four classrooms as well as four bathrooms, offices, a library, kitchen and areas for socializing. Lyman School Apartments (East Boston, Mass.) The East Boston Community Development Corporation (EBCDC) engaged Kaplan for interior and exterior renovations to an historic red-brick structure that was originally built in 1912 as the Theodore Lyman School. The 40,000 s/f, five-story building, located at 30 Gove St. in East Boston, was converted to elderly housing in the 1980s. The new renovation will create a mix of 45 rent-assisted studios and one-bedroom apartments, office space, common amenities, and community space. Castle Island Brewing Company (Norwood, Mass.) Kaplan transformed an existing warehouse into Greater Boston’s newest craft brewery for Castle Island Brewing Company. Kaplan’s primary focus was to modify the existing warehouse and complete the mechanical infrastructure necessary to support Castle Island’s highly specialized equipment so that brewing could commence before Thanksgiving 2015.   A 3,000 s/f section of concrete floor was promptly removed so that a new reinforced floor system with a urethane floor coating could be installed to support the 12 stainless steel tanks that can each weigh up to 28,000 pounds when full of beer.
