Mercedes of Burlington receives approval from Conservation Commission

June 19, 2014 - Front Section
Mercedes-Benz of Burlington received unanimous approval from the Town of Burlington's Conservation Commission on May 22, during the site design review process for the property at 80-82 Cambridge St. Located in the buffer zone of a riverfront area and under the jurisdiction of a local water resource district, Mercedes-Benz of Burlington sought approval to demolish the existing buildings and develop a new structure in accordance with local wetland bylaws and the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act.
"We are pleased to receive the approval of the Conservation Commission and to continue moving forward with this project," said Bernie Moreno, owner of Mercedes-Benz of Burlington. "We are committed to developing the best possible project for the town and the environment and are grateful for the input and support of the commission and the Town of Burlington."
Conditions reviewed and approved by the commission include sedimentation and erosion control, mitigation of pollution and runoff and the development and proper implementation of green space.
The property has completed the second part of the local approval process, and can begin construction once the appeal period is closed.
In late January, Mercedes-Benz of Burlington received the approval of town meeting for the rezoning of the site to a Planned Development District (PDD), allowing for the construction of the proposed auto dealership. The zoning change extended the PDD commonly known as "Burlington Corporate Center" to include the property at Cambridge Street. Plans for the property include the demolition of the two existing commercial buildings and the development of a state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz of Burlington, a 55,000 s/f, world-class luxury auto dealership.
