Suffolk begins construction of $30m expansion at Beth Israel Deaconess

Suffolk Construction's healthcare business unit has begun work on a $30 million expansion to the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham campus. The 44,000 s/f addition is the hospital's largest facility improvement project in 30 years. Suffolk will construct a new two-story vertical expansion and renovate the existing facility to upgrade the façade and create a new front entrance. Designed by Steffian Bradley Architects, the project will provide much-needed space and equipment, including 20 additional in-patient beds, a new emergency room and a state-of-the-art MRI suite. Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2009. Suffolk's project team will work in and above the existing facility while patient care and other daily operations continue uninterrupted. The team will implement proven construction mitigation measures to reduce dust, noise and vibration and is working closely with the hospital to execute strict infection control measures. The Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham project is Suffolk healthcare's first partnership with the healthcare institution. Suffolk is also currently working with Boston Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Brigham & Women's Hospital as it expands its market share in the healthcare sector.
