The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s wins 2021 Menino Legacy Award -developed by Cabot, Cabot & Forbes; architects are BH+A and Cube3

Brighton, MA The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s, the new hilltop residential community at 161-185 Washington St., has won the 2021 Preservation Massachusetts – Mayor Thomas M. Menino Legacy Award. This award, presented annually during the Preservation Massachusetts Awards, celebrates projects that are transformative, catalytic, embrace the community, create partnerships, and revitalize the best of the past to make something good for the future.

The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s brings new life to a historic development at the St. Gabriel’s Monastery, which was originally built in 1909. The project includes four new residential buildings, which artfully integrate modern conveniences within stunningly restored century-old architecture. The project was led by developer Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, along with Blue Vista Capital Management (capital partner), and PeakMade Real Estate (leasing and management). The developers worked in concert with architect BH+A to restore St. Gabriel’s Monastery and Church, and CUBE3 to create three new construction residential buildings.

“The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s was painstakingly restored with the utmost attention to historic detail while also offering the seamless integration of high-tech features and luxurious amenities for residents,” said John Sullivan, executive vice president of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes. “This win affirms our mission and is made even sweeter by the fact that it comes on the heels of our first residents moving into their brand new, once-in-a-lifetime homes.”

The 2021 Preservation Awards program is a month-long multimedia celebration that will highlight each award recipient on a specific day. The event coincides with National Historic Preservation Month, which celebrates the nation’s heritage through historic places. Festivities culminate on Thursday, May 20 with a live virtual awards ceremony, which starts at 4:30 p.m. Registration for the virtual awards ceremony is open online.

Additionally, along with this milestone win, The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s is also a finalist in the 2021 People’s Preservation Choice (PPC) Award. Voting is open to the public through Thursday, May 20 at 12 p.m., and votes can be cast online. Individuals can vote as many times as they like and are encouraged to vote often to support The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s. The winners will be announced during the live virtual presentation at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20.

Overlook Landmark, a boutique residential building, and Overlook East are available for tours and immediate move-ins. Two additional buildings, Overlook North and Overlook West, are slated to open May 1 and June 15, respectively.
