DJSA Architecture promotes Silvia to associate

Raynham, MA DJSA Architecture PC, has promoted Zachary Silvia to the position of associate. In this role, Silvia, who prior to his promotion, held the title of project architect, is responsible for working with clients from project conception through occupancy, participating in all phases of project design and construction administration, and the evaluation of site conditions and constraints, among other duties.

Vertical housing in suburban markets: The time is now - by Brent Maugel

As a young architectural student, I remember reading Latvian-American architect Gunnar Birkerts’ urban planning book Process and Expression in Architectural Form. In the book, Birkerts encouraged maximizing the height of space above the ground plane, as well as the depth of space below the ground plane. The concept created a vertical stacking where people interaction spaces lived above ground and the non-interactive, unsightly spaces were located below; it would be a utopian built environment where all movements of utilities, trash, and vehicles would never see the light of day.

Landry/French completes Schooner Estates - designed by Gawron Turgeon

Auburn, ME Landry/French Construction has completed the  Schooner Memory Care. Located on an eight-acre site next to Schooner Estates, a senior living community on Stetson Rd, this new 47,600 s/f facility specializes in memory care and assisted living.  Designed by Gawron Turgeon Architects, the 66-unit facility features private and semi-private apartments in three 22-bed neighborhoods.

Green Leaf Construction begins office fit-up for Acton Medical

Hudson, MA Green Leaf Construction has begun construction on the build out of a 5,000 s/f primary care suite for Acton Medical Associates at the Shops at Highland Commons. NEI GC completes Whittier Choice Neighborhood Phase 1A

Roxbury, MA NEI General Contracting has completed the Whittier Choice Neighborhood Phase 1A for Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH). Located at 100 Cabot St., Phase 1A involved the demolition and removal of the existing Whittier Street Apartments to make way for the new construction of 92 rental units ranging from one, two, and three-bedrooms in both apartments and townhomes.

Charles Construction Co. assists Northeast Dermatology in expansion

Shawmut installs largest single span glass panel at Herb Chambers

Boston, MA Shawmut Design and Construction celebrated a milestone in its Herb Chambers Jaguar Land Rover project, which is expected to open April 2021. The project team safely and successfully installed some of the largest single span glass panels in the city on the four-story, 200,000 s/f building.  Partnering closely with Salem Glass Company, the Shawmut team installed 20 insulated glass units–each 8 feet wide, 27 feet tall, and more than 1.5 inches thick–over the course of five days.
