What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? Transitioning SV from a primarily custom single-family residential firm to one which now includes an equal amount of market-rate and affordable multi-family housing and institutional and commercial projects.
What advice would you share with emerging professionals striving to become future leaders in commercial real estate? Be curious and stay humble. Ask questions, listen more than you speak, and never be afraid to admit what you don’t know.
What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? The leasing department plays a key role in advancing Cummings’ “All Profits to Nonprofits” model, through which 100% of rental profits support charitable organizations.
How do you inspire, motivate, or mentor others within your organization? With over 20 years on the Vantage team, I try to mentor others, particularly the new supers, by sharing the experience I’ve gained and explaining the purpose behind what we do.
What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? It was rewarding to advance two standout projects, the conversion of a vacant Lord & Taylor in Salem, NH, into a charitable gaming facility,
What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you? Navigating sustained market volatility. After the slow recovery and steady growth following the 2008 financial crisis, many of us braced for a traditional downturn, then COVID hit.
What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you? I went from being a top producer to managing 5 offices and 10 advisors. My goal was simple, implement systems and processes, and get the firm to implement a strategy.
What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? This year, I’m most proud of launching the Lawrence P. Cohen Memorial Scholarship in honor of my late father and our firm’s founder.
What advice would you share with emerging professionals striving to become future leaders in commercial real estate? When I first started practicing, I made a point of wanting to learn at least one thing every day (and be mindful and reflect on what I learned at the end of the day).
What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community? One accomplishment I’m most proud of is helping local business owners transition from being long-term tenants to becoming commercial property owners.
What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you? When I began practicing law, leadership meant control of clients, revenue, and visibility. I learned true leadership is the opposite: it’s not about personal credit but advancing others so the firm grows beyond one person.
