Without a doubt, rising interest rates had the single greatest impact on the commercial real estate development industry this year. Increased borrowing costs combined with inflationary forces challenged project teams to problem solve
What person, project, transaction, or market trend had the greatest impact on your industry this year? Rising Interest Rates impacted our industry; even with construction costs down and the supply chain improving; demand slowed down to pre- pandemic years. Investors took a break on development plans watching the economy and interest rates.

To further Shawmut’s commitment to DEI, this year, I was proud to launch our Diverse Partnerships Program – an initiative that provides more opportunities for diverse vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers. The program enables economic, social, and community opportunity
What makes this nominee an Industry Leader? “I have worked with Susan Shelby for 22 years and am continuously impressed by her industry knowledge, leadership, and professionalism. She mentors not only the future leaders of the design and construction industry, but also her colleagues and clients.
What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of? Our team’s consistency this year is a testament to their hard work and commitment. Our office handled a majority of the firm’s 150+ investment sales in Boston & New England this year.
What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of? We designed a new office for Publicis Groupe, bringing together seven brands and 1,500 employees. We knew that engaging employees in the process was critical to its success, and that the standard design process wouldn’t be adequate to engage so many participants.
What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of? Limani – Washington, D.C. Over the past few years, I have worked to secure several locations (including Chestnut Hill and Seaport) for my client, Limani. I am especially proud of closing the Washington, D.C.
